Today, we will be making an eight-point star block, also known as a sawtooth star block.
Lets get started!
Materials Needed:
Background fabric ( Fabric A & B )
Main fabric ( Fabric C & D )
Tools: Rotary cutter, mat, ruler, threads, and sewing machine.
Preparing Your Fabrics:
It’s really important to prep your fabric. My secret recipe is 40% Terial Magic, 60% Best Press. Use a spray bottle and spray, then press the back of your fabric.
Cutting chart

Assembling the Eight-Pointed Star / Sawtooth Block
Creating the Flying Geese
Draw diagonal lines across (fabric A), wrong side.
With (Fabric D) right sides up, place two (Fabric A) face down (RST), lining up the diagonal lines. With the two squares, there will be overlapping corners in the middle. Pin and sew on both sides of the line.
Cut the unit in half on the drawn diagonal line. Press the seam towards Fabric A. This will leave you with 2 units.

Place 2 more (Fabric A) squares in the corner of each unit and sew in place on both sides of the drawn line. Cut on the line and press seams toward (Fabric A).
You will now have four Flying Geese units. Square up your flying geese units according to the table above.

Putting your block together

Now you want to sew your blocks together as shown above.
Press your seams according to the arrows so they nest properly.
Sew your rows together and press, then trim to size.
Volia! Your Eight-Point Star / Sawtooth Block is ready.
